The Queensland Government launched ARTS, CULTURE + ME – A Children and Young People in the Arts Action Plan in 2008. As part of this initiative The Edge came into existence. This highly innovative, community strengthening strategy is delivered through the State Library of Queensland.
The Edge, situated at Southbank, Brisbane in Australia, has been designed to broaden and bridge education, arts, and technology as well as other enterprise platforms. The space facilitates collaborative learning, experimentation and exploration of craft, technique and technology. The aim is to connect informal learning with formal education, creative, cultural and business networks.
Supporting Young People in Multimedia and Design
The enterprise is a platform from which young people are encouraged to pursue further education. The facilitators, called catalysts, encourage the young people to explore aspects of multimedia and design. To this end The Edge supports participants by encouraging enrolment at colleges, TAFES and universities.
