The superhero comic, like all media entertainment, has evolved for decades, and the character of Batman is certainly proof of that. While modern audiences may be more used to the Dark Knight starring in serious, complex cases, the gleeful silliness of Silver Age Batman comics and the TV series with Adam West still have their appeal. The fairly recent animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold is made to capture that appeal, while still mixing in elements of the character’s latter days. The result is an enjoyable series, even if it isn’t perfect.

Heroic Exploits

The Brave and the Bold revolves around Batman (Diedrich Bader) joining forces with other superheroes from DC Comics to battle the forces of evil, and Volume 4, released on the 7th February 2011,collects four of these adventures. The first, ‘Mystery in Space’ has Batman and Aquaman (Joe DiMaggio) travel to an alien planet to face a reptilian army, while Aquaman deals with his self-doubt. ‘Trials of the Demon’ has Batman being summoned back to Victorian England to join Etrigan the Demon (Dee Bradley Baker) in capturing the future Gentleman Ghost (Greg Ellis), while having a slight rivalry against none other than Sherlock Holmes (Ian Buchanen).
